Walk **** early morning prom stroll – sunny.
Woke at 6 this morning and Mag was already gone so although I had missed
the sunrise I got dressed and headed to the clifftop meting Mag at the end
of the road. She decided to join me again as we strolled along the cliff
top to get a few pics to send to the local TV for their weather reports. It
was a beautiful morning, light winds with hardly a cloud in the sky. Then
down onto the prom before returning home with fingers crossed the wind will
build for some foiling?

After breakfast I managed to do my exercises in the back garden while Mag
continues her garden alterations with the wind slowly building. Around
11.30 I struggle into my wetsuit, message the local windsurfing group and
head down to The Manor managing to park in the free dead-end at the end of
the prom:) There is 15 mph winds from the SW and sunny so I set up my foil
and take a chance with my favourite foil sail the 7m with no sign of the
few sailors who said they were coming down. The only trouble here is the
flood gate is still closed but it is no problem getting your kit on the
beach, luckily there was no fishermen in the closest groyne! It was an easy
launch, quickly into deep water and up and flying quickly bearing off broad
heading to The Dip. I gybed as I didn’t want to get too far off shore
even through we are watched here by the coastwatch from the Martello tower
and I am now carrying my new vhf marina radio, fastfind gps beacon and a
small rucksack of spares! The wind inshore was much lighter and it took
awhile to get going. Then played with the swell which gets bigger as you
head up the coast, with the best sea condition’s being back at The Manor.
I got as far as the red and white bouy and headed inshore right through the
rough water as the Deben enters the sea! I then started the beat back which
was good, with the sea big and well powered up most of the time and had
been joined by fellow foiler Andy Mexome. The sun sadly disappeared and we
had some showers too which knocked the temperature down a little and the
sea is still very cold. After the fun beat I had a few runs out to Wadgate
Post in lovely sea conditions, really smooth, I did try pushing it a couple
of ties but only ended up in the cold water! The wind was a little up and
down and with some dark clouds bringing some light rain I decided to call
it a day. So an OK session, would have been nice to have more sunshine and
a little warmer but using a big foil board means you can keep out of the
water, well most of the time! Robert, Ian and Al were also out so a good
turn out with some good breezes coming there will hopefully be some more
windsurfing this month!
